“Nepali Week ‘18” photo by Amy Fletcher

Nepali Week was the last multicultural week that many APU students were joined was held in Dec. 17 to Dec. 21 in 2018.

"Nepali Week ‘18". This picture has the National Flower of Nepal. This flower's name is Rhododendron. Also, they write the word in English but it meant to be Nepal word because it is Nepali Week.

All of these pictures on the right were made by students who joined Nepali Week. These Nepali Week designs are different from other cultures because other countries do not have the same shade of the color. The upper left one is a traditional temple in Nepal. The bottom left one is a kind of doll can be played with. It's pretty famous among a Newari community. Newari is the historical inhabitants of the Kathmandu Valley and it is surrounding areas in Nepal and the creators of its historic heritage and civilization. The middle of the right one is just a chair used by the king, goddess Kumari. The bottom right one is the window which used in traditional palaces and big monuments. It is called Akhi Jhyal it means windows like eyes.

Yuiko Shiozawa designed this picture posted on
Nepali Week's Instagram page. In the picture, she designed speaking-of-Nepal things that she remembers from my trip to Nepal. She designed like this because she is learning animation currently and needed to learn an illustration, so also as a part of practice, she did it. The concept is to express everything Yuiko saw in Nepal in one picture. Her image towards Nepal is the flags, the temple, National flower, donkey and ranges of the mountain. She does not remember how long she took to drawing this picture, but almost in total one day.

Bidhab Subhara Rai is 3rd year APM student. He participated in Nepali Week and he did props for other members because he is not good at talking in front of people but he wanted to help members. His image of Nepal is very Buddhism scenario and temples also countryside and mountain like a Beppu.

From this, the members who designed items in this week put this image that is Buddhism scenario and temples also countryside and mountain into the design of this picture and other designs. The design is totally Nepal culture and the model is just in Nepal, also it was focused on the traditional way. This is the most important part of the design.

Nepal week design is a very traditional and different scenario from other countries. Buddhism scenario and temples also countryside and mountain into the design of this picture and other designs. Many people can feel Nepal from this Nepali Week.

Comments

  1. I'd be interested to learn 1) how many Nepali students are in APU, 2) how many students organized the Nepali week, and 3) how many students participated in the Nepali Week event.
