“When I was a child I was feeling myself as a nothing”.

Kanemoto Eiseki was in elementary school in Japan when he was bullied for the first time because he is a Korean. “For a Japanese, I’m a Korean but for Korea, I’m a traitor,” he said.

Eiseki is 61 years old, working as a Chinese food chef in the buffet restaurant in the Kamenoi Hotel since 2007. He’s been cooking Chinese food for 43 years that he knew food makes people happy.

Kanemoto loves to spend time with APU students to support them and to teach something that he couldn’t do.

“Believing in yourself leads to your success, it doesn’t matter where you are from,” he said.

He grew up in Fukuoka with any plans for the future when he was a child. He said, “Korean people who live in Japan have no choice and motivation for their future”.

His teacher recommended working in a Chinese restaurant when he was in high school, he decided to work in a Chinese restaurant after graduating high school.

He spent six years in Rokumeishun Chinese restaurant in Saga prefecture, washing pot for three years. “I have learned everything about the life in Rokumeishun, ” he said. “I didn’t know anything about the world. I learned good things even bad things there,”.

“When I started cooking, one of the best enjoyment was hearing compliments from my customers,” Kanemoto said.

He wanted to cook to share the happiness with his customers and he went to work in Central Hotel in Fukuoka to learn how to cook professionally from Chin, a famous Chinese food chef in Fukuoka.

He succeeded more than he imagined and now he has everything that he wants.
“My last 43 years was very hard but I was too coward to try new things,” he said.

Now his dream is being healthy with his family. He likes to climb a mountain with his friend Baniya a 3rd-year student of APU. He’s climbing a mountain and traveling at least 3 times a month.

“Although I didn’t have any talent, I met lots of good people who were always supporting me”. But the problem in his life is a distinct people and he knows there are many types of people in the world. “People will jealous of you, they want to destroy your success, even your friend,” he said.
