Nepali Week 2018 was held on Dec.16 to 20 at APU. And the one of the biggest sponsors for this week is Purunima which located near the Beppu station.

Purunima is an indian curry restaurant and the workers there are all from Nepali. So people can enjoy Nepali food and it has been loved by many APU students since this restaurant has established in 2013.

They have supported Nepali week since 2013, and they served some Nepali dishes at cafeteria and in front of the AP house at that time.

However, they thought it difficult to serve Nepali food at campus nowadays because of a shortage of the workers there and people who can management it, so there were no ethnic booth at cafeteria this year.

Moreover, they gave the Nepali week about 100,000 yen this year, and sponsoring not only Nepali week but also the Indian Week, Okinawa Week and Bangladesh Week.

“When I first came to Beppu city, I missed Nepali food so much and sometimes felt uncomfortable of new environment”, said Keshav KANDEL, one of the workers at the restaurant. “But Purunima always reminded me of my hometown and it encouraged me to work here”

Now KANDEL is actively preparing a special party for international students after finishing the grand show of Nepali week, serving traditional Nepali food in a new year for all participants of the show. “It’s my pleasure to see their smile with our dishes”, he said.

“I miss Nepali food so much because there are no special ingredients to make it in Japan, said Sushim Thapaliya, a Purunima lover, second year student at APU. “This restaurant is only one that I can enjoy the taste of my hometown”, said Sushim.

Although most people have an image that all Nepal always eat curry, “It’s not true. Mom (a dumpling in Nepali style) is more common dish in Nepali, and people usually eat this with milk tea, and Purunima has those items on the menu”, she said.

The restaurant is also planning to be a supporter of Nepali Week next year. “Many APU students always love eating our dishes, so it’s kind of our duty to do that”, KANDEL said.
