Many APU students brought their own culture and spread it to people who were enjoying their weekend at Oita Station on November 4. This event is called “Culture Wagon Camp” which is one of the programs APU students hold with people who live in the city.

One Sri Lankan student was selling chicken curry to people with her peers at their booth. “It is very helpful for people to hold this event,” said Sajani Tilakarathne, a 3rd-year student at APU. She was selling Sri Lankan chicken curry in order to raise money for an upcoming Sri Lanka Week which is also organized by APU students starting from December 10.

Tilakarathne said since the preparation did not take much time, she and other members started preparing for their booth the day before the event was held. Last year, she also participated in this event and spread Sri Lankan culture by putting it right into their chicken curry...

She wants Oita to be a nicer place to gather for both international and even domestic people through this event. She believes that this event allows many people to have an incredible opportunity to know other cultures since APU students are performing traditional dance and serving traditional food from their own countries.

This year was the 8th anniversary and all the students who were in charge of the booths and people who were facilitating the event tried to attract as many people as possible at the station.

On November 4th, Oita station was absolutely colored by many different cultures. This was when all the culture wagons actually came to Oita station and remade it into Oita “Global” Station yet not Oita station.
