“ I am so glad if our customers love ethnic food and we always would like to make the customers comfortable with our dishes and atmosphere of this restaurant”, one of the workers, Takumi said.

E-Dining is an ethnic restaurant located near Takegawara hot spring in Beppu city. They serve about 20 kinds of Asian food from Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and Indonesia. And customers enjoy not only Asian dishes but also Asian alcohol there.

The clerk at this restaurant are 2 students, Tsutomu Morisaki, a third year marketing student at APU, came to school last autumn, and Takumi Shibato, a third year marketing student as well as Tsutomu. They have known each other since they were elementary school students. “Because we have studied about marketing, we actually wanted to run restaurant with our knowledge of marketing and financial”, Tsutomu said.

For the reason why they decided to open the ethnic restaurant, “there are very few restaurant that we can eat ethnic food in Beppu”, Takumi said. “So we didn’t have to care about other restaurant in terms of financial results”.

However, they faced some problems such as improvement of the quality of dishes and decoration of interior before they started to run the restaurant. Especially, the shortage of the funds was the main problem. That is why they got the money by using the online system “Crowd Funding” so that everyone can fund for it, then this was finally succeeded in collecting 500,000 yen to open the restaurant.

On Dec 14, 2018, they opened the restaurant, and at that time, Ai Shiono, a graduate student of APU last semester, was in charge of decoration of interior. “I am pleased to be a support member, and I will cooperate with them before I join my company in April”, Ai said.

When the first month to open the restaurant, many customers came there because the reputation spread in APU community. However, as time passed, the customers was on a declining trend and the sales figure is going down recently.

Therefore, the manager most focus on strategy to attract customers now, so he went to hotels in Beppu to give them flyers and use Instagram to advertise wider. They are planning to use the booking site on internet which called “Hot Pepper” in the future.

For the goals, “We want more people in Beppu to know about our restaurant”, Takimi said. They decided to advertise by asking some clubs at APU because the APU office didn’t admit to advertise for the purpose of profits.

“The important thing is to try anything that you are interested in”, Tsutomu advised for the APU students. “If you take opportunity as many as possible in the APU life, it will be beneficial for the job hunting”.
