Aburaya Kumahachi Museum by Mr. Hirano

”I believe that Beppu can be the best tourist spot like Kumahachi Aburaya believed,” Yoshihiro Hirano said.

Mr. Hirano, a representative of the Beppu Onsen Advertisement Association, organized Aburaya Kumahachi Museum which was held from Nov.17 to 18 in the Beppu BlueBird Theater.

Mr. Hirano usually works for tourism and community building for the development of Beppu city, and that event was one of his works.

Aburaya Kumahachi Museum introduced people about Kumahachi Aburaya through various programs such as musical, movie. Kumahachi Aburaya is a businessman who was called “pioneer of Oita tourism”, and he made Beppu be famous around the world. There is a bronze statue of him in front of Beppu station.

Regularly, Mr.Hirano supports organizations which respect Kumahachi Aburaya, and participation of this event were that he demanded.

He greeted as an organizer firstly, then he performed to dance in front of people as one of the opening acts. In addition, Mr. Hirano gathered kids as participants in some events. In fact, performers of the musical in the main program were children.


Mr. Hirano wants next-generation people to succeed to Beppu culture and history, so he aimed at that children begin to be interested in that through this event. “I would like not only adult people but younger to like Beppu more and more,” he said.

In terms of Kumahachi Aburaya, “I respect for him as a pioneer of Beppu tourism. Although people working for Beppu tourism are trying to make Beppu be the most popular, he contributed a lot of things to our hometown many years ago,” Mr. Hirano said.

Mr. Hirano hopes that many people learn more about Beppu and Kumahachi Aburaya, so he planned to hold the next event in other regions. Especially, he wants to do in Shikoku where Aburaya was born.

 In addition, Mr. Hirano willing to organize a new event which makes APU involved in. “I would like to hold an interesting event with APU students in the near future.”
