Muslims Eat Pork? Muslims Drink Alcohol?
HALAL certification
Do Muslims consume pork and alcohol? Whether should they consume them or not?
The religion of Islam has a special law, Shari'a, where muslims must avoid eating pork, drinking alcohol and pray.
Recently, however, there are a lot of muslims, especially young
muslims, who encounter new challenge due to new culture in the world
influencing them. For example, in Iran, a lot of young women wear Hijib as you
make their long hair visible. Moreover, some muslims eat pork meat and drink
alcohol. Some of these things are treated as taboo in Islam. This is to say
that there are conservative muslims and non conservative ones as well.
Farras
“I avoid eating pork and drinking alcohol. However, muslims who
are same age of us should have knowledge. That’s why muslims should have
responsibility of acting whether they should avoid them or not. Namely, it is
up to person.” 18 years old Indonesian boy, Farras, said. “sometimes
Interracial marriage make some muslims be confused.”
He is a muslim, so he believes in the existence of Allah. He was
reared in Indonesia and Islamic custom, so he judged that he should avoid
eating pork and drinking alcohol. However, he means that muslims who are adult
can judge this because they have their own responsibility, so that muslims who
want to consume them should try them. Some conservative muslims, however, often
start consuming them due to interracial marriage. This is because this may make
them be confronted to their partner’s custom. Namely, he does not think that
that muslims consume eating pork and drinking alcohol is bad.
“Even though you patient eating and drinking what you want to, and
pray for Allah, if you do bad things and ignore anything, you cannot get
benefit. I work hard and do what I have to, so I eat and drink anything I want
to.” An non conservative Iranian muslim, Farhad, said.
He is also a muslim, so he believes in the existence of Allah,
too. He was born and raised in Iran and his parents are both devout muslims. However,
he gradually questioned why he must not do something due to a religion as he
grew up. He became an adult, he was sure that even though you do your best for
Islam, you would not be able to eat anything and be rewarded, if you ignored
what you have to do such as work, study and so on. Namely, what he want to say
is that it is important to follow your religion but you have to consider
reality as well. Shouldn’t someone who want to eat pork meat and drink alcohol
try them.
