Myanmar Week Music Selection

Myanmar week, dancing

by Ayaka Okamoto(The Fountain staff)

Zaw Myo Win, 2nd year APS student
chose music for the dance of APU
Myanmar Week Grand Show. The show
was held on Dec.22 at the millennium hall.

In the show, there were four dances (Kayin
dance, Bagan dance, Thanakha dance and
Rakhine Candle dance) with traditional music
Win chose.

The song with Kayin dance and Thanakha
dance are the cheerful song and the song
made the scene peaceful and the dance is
for citizen so the song is good to show how
their life is. The song with Bagan dance is
slowly ending elegant so it goes with the
gorgeous costumes. The song win chose
for the last dance (Candle dance) was sung
by two students. The students usually use
music player in the week they don’t usually
sing a song with dance so this is the most
interesting part of music.

The director of the grand show drama,
Win chose songs it took two weeks. Win
said, “It was rather easier than we thought”.
He chose them depending on the liveliness
of the song and how it would fit into the play
and also he chose them before he started
writing drama script so he could adjust the
scenes. Win said, “ It was a bit difficult trying
to find authentic Myanmar traditional songs
that are also lively and fun to listen”.

He did not choose songs by himself he
worked with other members.  When he chose
them he consulted with other students from
Myanmar about songs. Win said, “ In this
week, cooperation is very important for us
because our group is not big”.
