"HPGC for me, simply said, is a Life Internship." The silver haired man continued to explain that Honor Program for Global Citizenship (HPGC) teaches students how to communicate and work with people from different countries, and also it teaches how to manage both academic studies and social activities. For him, HPGC is a big internship for life.
Second year student Radoslav Tsvetanov Tsvetkov is from Bulgaria, and he joining HPGC. HPGC commenced in fall semester 2016, and Tsvetkov explained that it is for cultivating students and becoming role models for APU community by contributing to the APU and local environment Beppu and Oita. Honored students live in special floor in AP house 1 or 2, now Tsvetkov lives in AP house 2, M building.
The number of honored students is 42, they are separated three batches, and most of them living in AP house 1, C building 3rd and 4th floor. Tsvetkov, sitting on the sofa at the C-3rd floor, indicated the kitchen, hallway, and upper floor, and explained them. The public space is wider than other building's. And in 3rd floor, there is one kitchen for 3rd and 4th floor, in 4th floor, there are a laundry room and shower rooms. He said that the mechanism of this floors makes residents become close and friendly.
“I wanted to study in the international university in Japan, in English.” Tsvetkov said. He also wanted to study accounting and finance, so he came to APU. Before enrolling to APU, he applied and performed well on entrance exam, Admissions Office recommended him HPGC. So he applied the program, he enrolled APU as an honored student.
As the honored student, Tsvetkov has to meet the requirements and do lots of tasks. To be a role model for APU students, honored students have to keep GPA over 3.0 and good grades. In addition to this academic requirement, they have to live in AP house for 2 years and need to participate in different projects every semester and attend the seminar. Moreover, they need to initiate their own project. Tsvetkov said, "It is also the task for honored students to maintain the balance of academic studies and other activities."
So far, he is planning to do job hunting in Japan after graduate. He wants to work at international company in Japan, and 5 years later, he wants to join graduate school and get a master’s degree using working experience.
