I’m going to introduce you to yummy Myanmar food loved by Myanmar Burmese people. As for this topic, Thant Thant Thu, APS student from Myanmar, cooperated in this interview.


Lat Phat Salad

What is the most popular food?
One of the most popular food in Myanmar is Lat Phat Salad which can be directly translated to Green Tea Leaf Salad in English, according to her. This is eaten anytime, anywhere including when guests come at home and also in a wedding. Generally, this is made of tomatoes, shrimps, cherry spicy, fried beans, white sesame and garlic. In addition to these ingredients, you can pour some oil and put whatever spices or vegetables and so on you want.

What food should visitor eat in Myanmar
“I often want to eat Shan Ramen and Lat Phat Salad.” She described two dishes. The reason the first one, Shan Ramen, is picked out is that you may feel full more than any other food when you eat it for breakfast. This basically includes meat. Moreover, you can use any type meats and noodles. In addition to this, you should add something you like,  for example, Tomato is treated as one of the popular ingredients in this food. Other than Tomato, Myanmar Burmese people often eat this as their breakfast. The latter one is Lat Phat Salad, as I explained in the previous paragraph. The reason the latter one, Lat Phat Salad, is picked out is that this makes you recall your hometown. Moreover, it is easy for people to prepare this.

What is the most recommended foods?
There are few foods you can experience various tastes once in the world, but you can if you eat it!” She said. Lat Phat Salad is also described as the food that Japanese should try. This is because you can feel various tastes. You can feel bitter, sour, spicy and so on while you eat it. Moreover, this experience surprises you.

When you visit Myanmar, you should try Lat Phat Salad and Shan Ramen which are loved by Myanmar Burmese people.

    1. Yes, you can try it in Japan. In Tokyo, there are lots of Myanmar restaurants, especially Takatanobaba area.
